BMW’s first ever M3 was developed as a homologation model to meet Group A touring car regulations, forming the foundation of BMW’s racing dominance in the late 1980s. The Bavarian car maker’s E30 M3 rewrote the specification of small, hotted-up saloons in similar fashion than VW did for the hot hatches in the 1970s. Powered by the naturally aspirated S14 four-cylinder engine, derived from BMW’s M10 block and M88/M1 cylinder head architecture, the M3 combined a high-revving character with precise throttle response. Its widened track, boxed fenders, revised suspension geometry, and lightweight body panels delivered exceptional balance and handling, making it as effective on track as it was usable on the road. A total of approximately 17,970 examples were produced between 1987 and 1991, including all Evolution variants.

Description
Vehicle story
The BMW M3 E30 Sport Evolution (Evo III) represents the most advanced factory iteration. Produced in 1990 and limited to only 600 units, it featured a stroked 2.5-liter version of the S14 engine producing 238 hp, along with increased torque across the rev range. Other technical enhancements included adjustable front splitter and rear wing, thinner glass, reduced sound deadening, uprated brakes and suspension, and larger 18-inch wheels. Built explicitly for homologation and competition use, the Sport Evolution stands as the definitive and most technically focused E30 M3.
THIS MOTORCAR
The car presented here is one of only 600 Evolution Sport examples ever built. Delivered in early 1990 to Germany, chassis number WBAAK070X0AC79049 was specified with the following options and extras: 1. Fussmatten Velours (0423) - Carpets in velours 2. Warndreieck und Verbandtasche (0428) – Warning triangle and first aid set 3. Leuchtweitenregulierung (0510) – Headlight range adjustment 4. BMW BAVARIA C BUSINESS (6055) 5. DACHANTENNE (0681) – Roof antenna 6. DEUTSCHLAND AUSFUEHRUNG (0801) – German – market version 7. SONDERKONTROLLE PRESSEWAGEN (0902) – Special pre-delivery checkup for press cars Interestingly, the car’s delivery details specify that this very motorcar was used for testing and press purposes. The car’s original colour is the striking BMW – brillantrot, paired to an Anthracite fabric interior, the colour combination the car still features today. After spending its life in the hands of German collectors, the M3 was sold by its last German owner, a Dr Mauss from Düsseldorf, to another collector in the early 2020s, at which time the car’s odometer read 159.226kms. The consigning seller purchased the M3 shortly thereafter, adding another 10.000km to the odometer, before sending it to M+S Fahrzeugtechnik in Castrop-Rauxel, Germany, a well-respected BMW M expert. A complete nut-and-bolt restoration to concours specifications followed over a 2-year period. Since then, the car has been driven a mere 650kms. It is today registered in Luxembourg.
Presented in as-new condition and fresh from an expert nut-and-bolt restoration to the highest standards, this outstanding M3 Evolution Sport is a first-class addition to any serious car collection.
