A TRIBUTE TO HEBRIDIAN HERITAGE 1 OF 30 DEFENDER WORKS V8 ISLAY The Defender Works V8 Islay Edition was inspired by the 1965 Land Rover Series IIa. It was driven by Spencer Wilks, one of Land Rover's founders, on the Hebridean island of Islay - the birthplace of the Land Rover name. This very special and original LAND ROVER is owned by the LAND ROVER CLASSIC UK Collection. NUANCES OF THE ORIGINAL Islay Edition bears the signature of the Mid Grey exterior of the original from 1965. The main body is Heritage Grey with a contrasting roof and robust steel rims in Limestone. Complementing the iconic grille and traditional Land Rover badge is a personalised graphic on the side with 'GXC 639C' printed on it. This is the hallmark of Spencer Wilks' Series IIa. EVERY SEAM HAS A STORY An elegant homage to the eponymous place, the Islay Edition's seats, door panels, centre armrest and sun visor feature a tactile tweed made by Islay Woollen Mill. The natural colour palette is a harmonious interplay of blue for the sea and the sky, purple for the heather and a subtle yellow for the peat landscape. THESE WORDS HAVE CHANGED THE WORLD Throughout the interior of the Islay Edition, you will find allusions to the legendary Land Rover. This includes a plaque next to the gear selector lever that tells the story of Land Rover's name. HISTORIC DISTILLED DETAILS The removable console shelf with leather tabs emphasises the connection to the hybrid heritage of the Islay Edition and incorporates the oak of the whisky casks from the local Kilchoman distillery. Spencer Wilks' granddaughter, Kathy Wills, founded the distillery in 2005 with her husband, Anthony. Each compartment contains a wooden disc, a replica of the whisky barrel bottom, on which the limited number of 30 models is listed, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Land Rover brand.
